Renewable doubled in Europe: Italy to 13th place
In 2013 the share of clean energy in gross final consumption has reached 15%, with a leap forward to 2004, the first year for which data are available, when this figure was 8.3%.
Each EU Member State has its own goal, a national target that varies from country to country. Sweden is on the top: it produces the highest share of renewable energy. On the lowest rung of the ranking we find Luxembourg.
Since 2004 the share of renewable sources in gross final consumption of energy has increased significantly in all states, with 13 member countries that have at least doubled their share over the last 10 years.
Circular economy: By 2020, more jobs and less waste
In just five years Italy could reduce by two thirds the waste that now end up in landfills.
It will be able to reach this objective with the following operations:
• Double of waste collection
• Increase of the composting facilities number and preparation for recycling and reducing landfill and incineration
Sustainability and green economy
The review of European policies on sustainability, with a more ambitious approach towards issues such as biodiversity, climate change and energy efficiency, could be worth every year about 300 billion euro.
